Insulation

The following information on insulation products was developed to aggregate data to facilitate use of the new Appendix U - Embodied Carbon being prepared for the 2027 Denver Building Code. The code reporting requirements for insulation in Appendix U require that EPDs be submitted for all insulation products meeting a % threshold of all products used for a project building. And, if the project would like to earn additional credits for the Denver Energy Code, the reduction requirements are that the insulation products used must have a GWP that is at least 10% less than the Industry-Average GWP provided in an industry-association EPD.

The 2026 CLF Material Baselines is used as a reference for the insulation types and baseline values. The table below shows the results of an expanded search for Product-Specific and Facility-Specific EPDs for each insulation type considered. Several sites were used to search for EPDs, with the most commonly used being EC3, Sustainable Minds Transparency Catalog, ASTM International, and UL Solutions.
